Broad-spectrum antimicrobial potential of Crassula ovata

چکیده
Due to the rampant microbial resistance current antibiotics, there must be a necessary search for novel compounds with antimicrobial properties. In effort of this in plants, investigation demonstrates antibacterial characteristics Crassula ovata (C. ovata) against gram-positive bacteria and gram-negative bacteria. 1-3g samples C. Ovata leaf were extracted using 95% ethanol extract infused into paper discs. The discs incubated on previously plated bacterial plates zones inhibition attributable agents measured. Control disc extraction solvents. By measured clearing, demonstrated activity following bacteria: K. pneumoniae, E. cloacae, coli, P. vulgaris, S. agalactiae aureus. As result its various bacteria, showed broad-spectrum activity, hence, could investigated further potential development as antimicrobial.

Antimicrobial peptides: broad-spectrum antibiotics from nature.
No therapeutically useful new classes of antibiotics have been identified in the past quarter of a century This has become of major consequence in the face of the increase in the incidence of significant antibiotic resistance in the past decade. Indeed, strains of several important pathogens have been identified for which very few, or even no, possibilities for antibiotic therapy exist. Althoug...
متن کاملLight as a Broad-Spectrum Antimicrobial
Antimicrobial resistance is a significant and growing concern. To continue to treat even simple infections, there is a pressing need for new alternative and complementary approaches to antimicrobial therapy. One possible addition to the current range of treatments is the use of narrow-wavelength light as an antimicrobial, which has been shown to eliminate a range of common pathogens. Much progr...
متن کاملPotential Adverse Effects of Broad-Spectrum Antimicrobial Exposure in the Intensive Care Unit
Background The potential adverse effects of empiric broad-spectrum antimicrobial use among patients with suspected but subsequently excluded infection have not been fully characterized. We sought novel methods to quantify the risk of adverse effects of broad-spectrum antimicrobial exposure among patients admitted to an intensive care unit (ICU). Methods Among all adult patients admitted to IC...
متن کاملA Broad-Spectrum Antimicrobial Activity of Bacillus subtilis RLID 12.1
In the present study, an attempt was made to biochemically characterize the antimicrobial substance from the soil isolate designated as RLID 12.1 and explore its potential applications in biocontrol of drug-resistant pathogens. The antimicrobial potential of the wild-type isolate belonging to the genus Bacillus was determined by the cut-well agar assay. The production of antimicrobial compound ...
متن کاملPreparation of Copolymer-Based Nanoparticles with Broad-Spectrum Antimicrobial Activity
Polyacrylate and guanidine-based nanoparticles which involve acrylate monomers and glycidyl methacrylate modified oligo-guanidine were prepared by a seeded semi-continuous emulsion polymerization. The results from transmission electron microscope and dynamic light scattering measurements showed that the nanoparticles were spherical in shape and the particle size was in the range of 80–130 nm. A...
